Prime Video's Latest Animated Comedy Pays Tribute to the 1997 Film
Director Mike Roth expressed his fondness for Joel Schumacher’s campy 1997 feature Batman & Robin by including villains like Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Bane into his holiday movie Merry Little Batman. Now, he continues that homage with BAT-FAM, an forthcoming animated sitcom set to debut on Prime Video in November.
Familiar Characters and New Additions
The sequel to Merry Little Batman features Luke Wilson returning as Batman, facing the challenges of raising young Damian Wayne, played by Yonas Kibreab. Helping him is faithful butler Alfred Pennyworth (brought to life by James Cromwell), who is joined by his grandniece Alicia Pennyworth (voiced by London Hughes). Notably, the character's name references Alicia Silverstone, who appeared as Batgirl in Batman & Robin. Instead of becoming a costumed vigilante, this iteration of Alicia will focus on rehabilitating ex-supervillains.
The stately home will serve as a sanctuary for former villains going through difficulties.
Meet the Eccentric Housemates
- Ra’s al Ghul (voiced by Michael Benyaer) has been transformed into a ghost due to a magical mishap and now dotes on his grandson Damian.
- Volcana (brought to life by Haley Tju), a fire-wielding figure from Superman: The Animated Series, has been made younger and now serves as Damian’s sarcastic sibling.
- Man-Bat (played by Bobby Moynihan) serves as the laid-back roommate, passing time playing video games and raiding the fridge.
A Different Approach on Batman’s World
BAT-FAM will follow the household as they manage everyday situations while keeping safe Gotham City. The series aims to provide a family-friendly option to other mature series like Harley Quinn or darker tributes such as Batman: Caped Crusader. Viewers can catch a preview of the series at a special screening during New York Comic Con on October 11.
