New England Match Best Victory Run Since Brady Era with Triumph Against New York Jets
First-year player Henderson has tallied five scores in the present year
The New England Patriots matched their best victory streak since the Tom Brady era as they defeated AFC East rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in the NFL
Rookie Henderson shone brightly with three touchdowns as the New England squad secured an eight-game winning streak for the first time since star signal-caller Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
QB Maye passed for 281 yards and a TD, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
The win increases the Patriots lead at the top of the division as they improved to a 9-2 record, with the New York bottom after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had taken the lead at Foxborough with QB Fields running in a five-yard TD to conclude the New York's opening drive
But the Patriots fought back in the second period as Henderson ran in two short rushing scores before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the rear of the endzone midway through the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7
"It was a key occasion for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He desires to be excellent."
Fields threw to Metchie toward the end of the third period to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Borregales kicked a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots closed out the triumph
