Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
