Israel launched a significant wave of airstrikes in southeastern Lebanese territory, asserting they were targeting positions of the Iran-supported group the Hezbollah movement.

These strikes came after evacuation warnings were distributed for several locations. So far no immediate accounts of injuries or deaths.

Ongoing Hostilities

Israeli forces has conducted air attacks on locations it asserts are associated to Hezbollah practically each day notwithstanding a ceasefire deal that concluded the conflict with the faction in last November.

How is the Israeli adherence to these mechanisms?

International Calls

Lebanon's head of government called on the world leaders to press Israeli authorities to halt what he labeled as provocations and assaults, and to meet its ceasefire obligations.

Images posted on the internet showed large clouds of smoke in Mais al-Jabal, one of the sites targeted.

IDF Response

An Israeli army representative claimed the targets were facilities belonging to the group and following the group's efforts to restart activities in the area. The spokesman offered no verification.

IDF representative the official stated its forces had attacked and raided Hezbollah arms depots, and their activity "represented a breach of the agreements between Israel and the Lebanese state".

The official previously alerted residents to exit buildings in the villages of Mais al-Jabal, and afterward in additional villages.

Ceasefire Arrangement

The US and French-facilitated ceasefire was agreed between the leadership of Israel and Lebanon, not Hezbollah.

The deal states that the Lebanese government will "prevent Hezbollah and any other armed groups in the land of the country from performing any attacks against Israel". Meanwhile, the Israeli government will "avoid any hostile actions against Lebanese sites, including civilian, military, or additional national targets, in the area of Lebanon".

The Lebanese leadership has directed the armed forces with establishing a state monopoly on weapons, a action which the group has said it will disregard.
